How to divvy up Prince’s estate is a tough decision—the late musician had neither a will nor any surviving children. So, one biological sister and five half-siblings are eagerly awaiting decisions about how his estimated $300 million estate will be divided. Further complicating matters, a number of individuals have approached the estate with claims that Prince was their biological father, which only DNA testing will prove or disprove.

Yesterday (June 28) a Minnesota judge gave Prince’s estate a deadline to review, challenge or endorse current protocol for DNA-testing claimants. By July 8, attorneys for his estate must submit written positions on those guidelines because Judge Kevin Eide expects many “ground rules” to be unique to this unusual case.
On Monday, lawyers for 11 prospective heirs met with the court and Prince’s family attorneys, during which the judge set a two-week deadline for his decision on DNA protocol.
